Handstands with Caro Upsidedown

Workshop—23rd & 24th of August, 2025

Caroline Brunner

  • Caro is coming back to Movement after last years succesful workshop. With this workshop we are going for a deep dive into handstand:

ay 1: Intro to Handstands – Mobility & Alignment

No prerequisites – open to all levels!

New to handstands or looking to refine your foundation? This workshop will break down key techniques, alignment cues, and small but powerful adjustments to help you balance more efficiently. You’ll learn how to transition off the wall, safely kick up, and gain confidence in free space.

A key focus will be on building solid alignment through shoulder mobility and correct positioning, helping you create a strong and sustainable handstand practice. For those who feel hesitant about falling, we’ll also cover safe exit strategies to help you overcome your fears.

    What you’ll learn:

      •  Handstand-specific warm-up & mobility drills

      •  Basics of alignment & balance

      •  How to safely fall/practice falling

      •  Wall drills to transition into balance

      •  Safe & controlled kick-ups

Day 2: Straddle Handstands, Mobility & Press Fundamentals

Prerequisite: Day 1 or 15 sec freestanding handstand

Ready to take the next step? We’ll dive into the straddle handstand, focusing on the key elements of flexibility, strength, and technique to improve your balance, refine your straddle jump, and build a solid foundation for the press to handstand.

After learning about the basics of mobility training and straddle anatomy we’ll work on both passive and active mobility for straddle and pancake flexibility, ensuring not just range but also the control needed for fluid movement. Whether your goal is a stronger straddle shape or progressing towards a press to handstand, this workshop will give you the tools to level up!

     What you’ll learn:

      •  Active mobility drills for straddle & pancake flexibility

      •  Shoulder & hip conditioning for better straddle control

      •  Techniques for smooth straddle jump-ups & press handstands

      •  Setup & initiation of the press-to-handstand

      • Smart training strategies for lasting progress

This weekend will give you a solid foundation for your handstand journey, whether you're just starting or working towards more advanced skills. Let’s go upside down together!

  • Her vision is to help as many people as possible discover the joy of movement and, in doing so, achieve a sustainably healthy body.

Whether it’s through handstands, mobility training, calisthenics, or functional fitness, the most important thing for her is to find enjoyment in movement, to challenge the body in different ways, and to get to know oneself better through it.

Since 2022, she has been following her dream: traveling, leading workshops and retreats, supporting others both online and offline with their handstand, training, and fitness goals, experimenting with new forms of movement, training herself and finding new inspiration and ideas for her coaching, and recently, performing more and more as an acrobat.

Handstands, inversions, and really all kinds of acrobatic exercises have always fascinated her. She started with children’s gymnastics, which led her to vaulting, where she was able to channel her ambition as a teenager by learning new movements. Even though she only competed at the regional level, she was always interested in training her body more effectively. In particular, minor injuries here and there motivated her to take a closer look at the body and different training methods.

Her desire to learn a back handspring eventually led her to cheerleading at the age of 18 (since there weren’t any gymnastics clubs with adult groups nearby). While vaulting faded into the background due to a long-term shortage of horses, she discovered how much she could still learn in cheerleading—even “at her age”! Her first back handspring was soon followed by a standing backflip and, of course, countless stunts from the world of cheerleading.

Over the years, Nil has attended numerous seminars with various teachers, studied for himself with the help of books, articles, interviews/podcasts and maintains exchanges with various teachers.
